$12.00

Pale Jewelweed Seeds – 20 Seeds | Impatiens pallida | Yellow Touch-Me-Not | Native Woodland Wildflower

DESCRIPTION
Bring a little woodland beauty to your garden with Pale Jewelweed! Also called Yellow Jewelweed or Pale Touch-Me-Not, this native wildflower produces delicate yellow blooms among lush green foliage.

A lovely choice for moist woodland gardens and shaded borders, jewelweed attracts pollinators, including bumblebees and hummingbirds. Its ripened seedpods pop open when touched—the reason behind its “touch-me-not” nickname!

The video in this listing features my actual jewelweed patch, giving you a look at these plants growing and flowering here in Washington, Pennsylvania. For reference I live on a hill and am surrounded by black locust trees. The jewelweed I have migrates across the top of the hill following the moisture. Right now, the gutters for my neighbors house runs right where this is planted. I started the original patch in 1996 about 30 feet away from where it is now.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS
Fall sowing is recommended so natural seasonal changes can help break seed dormancy.

1. Choose a moist location with partial shade or dappled light. Clear away competing weeds.
2. Sow outdoors in late fall. Gently press seeds onto the soil surface without burying them; light helps germination.
3. Keep the planting area consistently moist.
4. Mark the spot and allow time for germination. Seeds may need a cold winter, a warm season, and another cold winter before sprouting. Germination may occur in the second spring after planting.

For indoor pretreatment, one method is to mix seeds with slightly moist sand, refrigerate for 40–60 days, keep at 70–75°F for 40–60 days, then refrigerate for another 40–60 days before surface sowing. Keep the medium moist throughout.

Jewelweed requires patience. Germination timing and success vary with seed condition, temperature, and moisture.
